What to do in a dental emergency
- Broken tooth - Try to keep the tooth moist. Place the tooth in the socket without touching the root. Call us as soon as possible.
- Cracked tooth - Rinse the tooth with warm water and apply a cold compress to avoid swelling. Call us as soon as possible.
- Tongue or lip bite - Clean the area with water and apply a cold compress.
- Swollen cheek from a toothache - Swelling is a symptom of infection. Rinse with warm salt water and gently remove any trapped food (never use sharp instruments). This requires immediate evaluation by a dentist.
- Wisdom tooth pain - Likely caused by infection and/or the position and eruption of the wisdom teeth. Rinse with warm salt water and use an ice pack, then get evaluated as soon as possible.
